This guy was rude and unhelpful. I went in with a simple question that he wouldn't answer, essentially told me I was an idiot for trying to do what I was trying to do, then tried to sell me a $70 notepad and told me that I wasn't ready to start filming anything and needed to plan more. He had no idea of my professional background (and I'm glad he didn't ask because he probably would have told me I was stupid for that too). Anyways, this guy was not helpful and tried to hard sell me overpriced merchandise, and would not answer my questions without telling me that I was wrong first. 0/10 would not shop again.
The guy was weird and kept hitting on my girlfriend (she and I are both 17) and called her "voluptuous". He told me to take pictures of her because "she has a lot to work with". Very disrespectful and VERY creepy. He had no sense of boundaries or common decency.
The things in this little shop celebrate a time when things were built by enthusiasts who took pride in their work. This shop houses the things that will be handed down for generations, in top quality condition. Are you looking for a quality receiver? He's got 30 of them from tube to solid state, all in top notch condition (and even more off site) Hasselblad? Kiev? He has them. Lenses filters and tripods? He has them. Enlargers? He's got a few. He also has quite a collection of vintage jewelry, which I'm less excited over, but its there and it all looks great. Gene, the owner is well informed on the history of these things, and can help you get exactly what you are looking for. He is also a fantastic photographer himself, and an all around character. Do not miss this shop if you are ever in Nashville.
Every time I walk in I feel like the shop owner is the person that I need to talk to get my next quest in life. The shop owner is definitely a character and a little overboard. Especially with the flirting if you are a woman, but he's a very cool person to start conversations with about almost anything. He has a lot of unique items and knowledge. Definitely one of the highlights of Nashville everytime I go.
Everyone that I have taken to this shop has loved him. Just be prepared for his honest self. Go in with an open mind. :)
