There were two young ladies and one man working. My son has trouble hauling himself on but with a push can make it. As soon as the man saw us, he said he has to be able to control the horse they are animals with minds of their own! Yes l know that. I also know that my son can hold on and that if you have Ever been to a trail ride, the horses follow along and never get off the trail. That man stood us next to an extremely tall horse, so tall my son could barely reach the horn and couldn't get his foot in the stirrups but I helped him. The he and I tried 3 times while that man just stood there waiting for us to fail. There were blocks of stone he could have allowed my son to stand on and he would have hopped right on, or he, being a stronger person than me (mom) could have pushed him on onto this gigantic animal :/
Well after 2 hours of getting excited about riding now we are on our way home because my son has autism. I have never been so angry about being discriminated against as I am in this day!!!
Staff was so rude! I have never dealt with nastier people in the service industry. If it was less expensive it may have been worth dealing with horribly rude people but for the price they weren't even civil. I don't recommend this place.
In June 2016, I stayed in brown county state park for a week. When I was younger I rode horses until I got bucked off once and I hadn't riden since. At first I was very scared to ride again at brown county but I love to ride! First, I took the 30 minute trail and I rode bonanza. Bonanza is beautiful and s little stubborn, but I had a great time.I forget my trail guides name, but she was very reassuring when I told her I was scared to ride. I had a great time! I loved when the horses trotted. The second time, I rode ginger for an hour. It was amazing and the horse was so sweet. Third time, I went for an hour on Willey. He was the most stubborn but I still loved the ride. And for the fourth time (and last) I rode bonanza again for an hour. I loved the saddle barn here and the views are amazing!
I wish I could give negative stars.... This was most definitely the worst horseback riding experience I've ever experienced. I have been riding horses my entire life so please understand that I have just a little knowledge of what I'm saying. First off, the man that lead me to the horse I would be riding was extremely rude to me. I requested that my stirrups be raised just one notch higher so that I could at least life my rear end off the saddle when standing and to help with my knee pain as well as disperse my weight across the horses back. the man responded with a very sour voice "that's as high as they're gonna go sweetie" and walked off without telling me the name of my horse (everyone else was told). When my best friend asked another attendant the name of my horse, she responded very sassily with "HER name is Martha..." and proceeded to roll her eyes. I truly wish I had gotten off and requested a refund right then. Throughout the entirety of our ride, our guide did nothing but smoke and text on his phone. I'm a smoker myself but I was really hoping to enjoy some fresh air for at least an hour as well as be guided with full attention. The trail we were on took us across a major road TWICE which meant that oncoming traffic had to stop (luckily they all did even though the trail was partially hidden)... I'm not sure about anyone else but that's terrifying and dangerous especially if you have small children! The horses have been broken and do not respond to any guidance. The only personality these horses show is sour and obstinate. The horse I was riding had her head in the tail of the horse in front of me. When I attempted to pull the reigns back and ease my horse off the other horses rear end, the guide proceeded to yell at me to give my horse her head. I ended up dropping the reigns completely seeing as I had no control anyways. My horse proceeded to take a path leading me directly into a tree so I pulled the reigns to the left to try and avoid being smacked but the horse refused to move under my hand so I ended up with a banged up knee and broke a nail off that was bleeding for the remainder of my ride. Might I also mention that the guide yelled at me after this yet again to give the horse her head as well as when my best friends horse broke into a trot and passed another horse. During the ride I could hear my horses shoe clinking as it was loose and on the final stretch of the trail, her shoe came completely off. When we arrived back at the stable, another rider was placed on the horse without any concern to her shoe. That was of course after an older man attendant had "helped" me off the saddle and held a little too tightly and long even after I requested he not touch me and that I was able to get down without assistance. We left immediately and will NOT EVER be returning. This place is a disgrace to the animal. What an absolute joke and waste of money and time.
If you have autism or some othe disabilit Do Not Go Here to ride. They discriminate against you! If I could, I would give them a big fat ZERO. Our heartbreaking experience....When I signed in and paid, told her we had driven an hour and a half to ride because there is no place closer, I was told they let those with autism ride all the time. Well my son, 21, Is severly affected HOWEVER he rides every Tuesday and has won Gold in the special Olympics.
Be careful of the guides and dangers on the trails. Our guide decided it was perfectly okay to stop and stare down a buck, she even took pictures of it which resulted in the horses getting spooked. I sustained a very serious injury which will affect me the rest of my life. Even though she was negligent, nobody seems to care. Riders beware. Make sure you are informed about the knowledge of your guide. On spotting the deer, she should have turned the horses away from the threat or kept moving, not create a dangerous situation that resulted in 2 people getting seriously hurt.
